Senior C++ Engineer

Chicago 405K - 1 Permanent

Our client is a global quantitative technology firm where software engineering sits at the center of every investment decision. Their engineering organization designs the critical infrastructure responsible for powering real-time trading, processing enormous volumes of market data, and maintaining highly optimized systems across international financial exchanges.

This is an environment where engineers have significant ownership over the technology they build. Working alongside quantitative developers and trading teams, you'll tackle complex performance challenges, develop latency-sensitive applications, and continuously refine systems where efficiency and reliability directly influence business outcomes.

The team values clean architecture, technical curiosity, and engineers who enjoy solving difficult systems problems. You'll have the freedom to introduce new ideas, improve existing platforms, and contribute to long-term engineering initiatives while working with exceptionally talented colleagues.

If you're energized by modern C++, systems programming, and building software where performance truly matters, this is an opportunity to work on technology that operates at the forefront of electronic markets.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-performance C++ applications supporting proprietary trading infrastructure and real-time exchange connectivity.
  • Develop scalable backend platforms capable of ingesting, distributing, and processing high-volume market data with extremely low latency.
  • Collaborate closely with quantitative researchers and trading teams to deliver technology that enables new strategies and improves trading performance.
  • Profile, benchmark, and optimize production systems to reduce latency, improve throughput, and maximize overall platform efficiency.
  • Participate in architectural decisions that shape the firm's next generation of distributed infrastructure and performance-critical software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or another highly quantitative discipline.
  • Strong professional experience developing production software using modern C++ (C++17/C++20 preferred).
  • Deep understanding of multithreaded programming, concurrency, memory management, networking, and Linux systems development.
  • Experience designing distributed systems with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Exposure to electronic trading systems, exchange connectivity, market data feeds, FIX protocol, or other capital markets technologies is highly desirable but not required.

Compensation

Base Salary: $405,000–$450,000

Total Compensation: $900,000–$1,100,000+

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to become part of a world-class engineering organization where software directly drives the firm's competitive edge. You'll build mission-critical infrastructure used every trading day, collaborate with some of the industry's strongest engineers and quantitative researchers, and work on technically challenging problems that demand innovative, high-performance solutions.

If you're looking for a role where engineering excellence, ownership, and cutting-edge systems development are truly valued, we'd welcome the opportunity to tell you more.
